Dutch and German guests extend season in Denmark
The first week of the new year is usually quiet at Danish parks. Holidaymakers are back to work and school, and the parks are winding down activities and staff. But the first week of January 2023 was different for Landal Seawest – here it was buzzing with life, joy and expectant guests, as Dutch and German visitors provided a boost in bookings.
First week of the year
Unlike Denmark, the Netherlands has a holiday the first week of January and many Dutch people took advantage of this to visit the Danish west coast at Nørre Nebel. Landal Seawest General Manager Max Hansen says: "Fortunately, based on the booking data, we had already predicted in mid-December that the season would continue into January and so we were able to adapt to the extra crowds. We called in extra staff, Bollo stepped up a gear and the extended restaurant and reception opening hours during the Christmas period were continued into January to accommodate Dutch guests."
Strong growth in international bookings
Denmark is seeing more Dutch guests this year than in previous years. "We saw almost a doubling of bookings from Dutch guests to Danish parks in January 2023 compared to January 2022. We are also above the level of Dutch bookings compared to January 2019,” says Kent Lodberg, Sales and Marketing Manager Landal GreenParks Denmark. “German guests have their eyes on Denmark again, too – here we saw more than a doubling of bookings in January 2023 compared to 2022."
Looking at the total number of international bookings to Danish parks in the period 1 January to mid-February 2023, there is an increase of a whopping 45% compared to 2022 and 19% compared to 2019.
Marketing focus Norway
Kent further states: "A focus area in the marketing of Danish parks in 2023 will be Norway, as we see great potential here. Already we are seeing an increase in bookings from early January to mid-February of 63% compared to 2022 and 16% if we compare to 2019. We can build on the increasing interest we saw from Norway in 2019 now that Covid has released its grip. All in all, we are looking forward to a 2023 filled with Dutch, German and Norwegian guests in our parks."
