Denmark: School camps result in high occupancy all year round
It is one Landal GreenParks’ goals to achieve a high level of occupancy all year round, which contributes to higher revenue and therefore a higher yield for homeowners. In order to have a high level of occupancy, the holiday homes also need to be booked during the week and in the low season. This is when primary and secondary school camps come in.
Schoolcamps in Denmark
Colleagues in Denmark have just completed a peak season for school camps. They usually stay in the spring or autumn and only on weekdays. There have already been 62 school camps in 2023, all of which will lead to a higher level of occupancy and extra revenue for the parks. With a high level of occupancy all year round, the Danish parks attain the status of being all-seasons destinations. This means they can be permanently staffed all year for guests and owners alike. This has a self-sustaining effect, as guests that also come in the low season can also experience our good personal service, which can result in repeat visits in the high season at higher prices.
A boost
Casper Lemvig, Park Manager of Landal Rønbjerg, talks about the school camps: “We are very happy to have the school camps here and it seems the feeling is mutual, as several of them are returning visitors. The camps give us a ‘boost’ in the quiet periods, giving homeowners income in a period when they otherwise would not be earning much. The schools make use of our activities and dine in the brasserie, and they stop us from being quiet. We have school camps from the end of Pentecost holiday (known as late May Bank Holiday in the UK) until the beginning of the summer holiday, so for us at Rønbjerg it means our high season lasts for almost six months.”
Populair
All seven of the parks in Denmark welcome school camps, but Landal Rønbjerg is particularly popular with school camps because many of the facilities in the park are suitable for slightly older children, such as wakeboarding and SUP (stand-up paddleboarding) in the lake, laser tag and inflatable basketball.
